Andrew Satter    New Paltz, NY

Andrew Satter is a Hudson Valley based artist whose black and white photographs lyrically capture everyday moments of everyday people in everyday situations. His current project is an exhibit of his recently (re)discovered silver prints and negatives of the iconic "Russ's Kitchenette Diner" that he made as an aspiring 20-year old photographer in the 1970's.

Satter has just published a limited edition photography book about this work entitled: Walk-Ins Welcome which can be purchased online: https://www.satterphoto.com/store/books

Andrew Satter was introduced to darkroom chemistry at the age of 9 by his grandfather. As a high school student in Clifton, NJ, he photographed rock concerts backstage at the Fillmore East and made pictures of anti-war demonstrations in Washington DC. When he was 20, he hitchhiked across Europe and made photographs in Rome, Vienna, Prague, and Budapest before returning to the US and enrolling at the Imageworks Photography School and Boston College. It was during this time that Satter started to photograph Russ's Kitchenette Diner -- a three-year project where he visited the diner at all hours of the day. Unwittingly, his collection of images from Russ's Diner are the most extensive photo archive of a single diner in the US.
